Futile Self Portrait (Portrait of the Artist as an Artist): 2008 Acrylic and ink on mat board 10x10” As much as I love to make art, I try not to forget what my professor Bruce Little used to tell me: “It’s not the art that’s important, it’s what you make the art about that’s important”. As artists we shouldn’t forget that life goes on outside the studio. Make as many grand gestures as you like, but when it’s all said and done you’re just jerking off no matter what you’re making or saying. A good artist doesn’t forget to LIVE. The image came off of a ZIG Posterman Big and Broad marker and was definitely inspired by Picabia’s “Portrait of a Young American Girl in a State of Nudity” and my love of The Book of Ecclisiastes. © Ashley Anderson
